The kitchen in this Capitol Hill residence had been poorly remodeled sometime in the 1980s, with a drop ceiling, black appliances, and an extremely narrow island with a cooktop choking the circulation. The space was dark, cramped, and inefficient. The clients love cooking and entertaining, so the ability to accommodate several different activities simultaneously was an absolute requirement. The wall between the kitchen and den was removed, and the new carrera marble counter top was carried through to tie the spaces together. The cabinetry package was precisely tailored to the clients' individual needs. New french doors were added to increase the amount of natural light in the kitchen and to create a visual connection to the garden outside. The drop ceiling was removed and new lighting installed which can be configured depending if the space is used for cooking or entertaining only.
